DUBLIN CITY SET TO WELCOME AN ADDITIONAL 10,000 VISITORS ON THURSDAY!
Four cruise ships to arrive into Dublin Port carrying 10,000 passengers
Dublin City is set to play host to almost 10,000 visitors on Thursday, 23rd July 2015. The visitors will arrive into Dublin on four cruise ships (The Magellan, Horizon, Celebrity Silhouette and Royal Princess) which will dock in Dublin Port.
This marks one of the busiest days in Dublin Port this year. So far in 2015 over 50 ships have docked in Dublin Port, carrying over 60,000 passengers. Dublin Port Company expects this to be a record year in terms of the number of visitors arriving into the Port due to the strong growth in passenger numbers from ferry and cruise ships.
Richard Guiney, CEO DublinTown said “The numbers of visitors arriving into Dublin on cruise ships is hugely significant for tourism and trade in Dublin City. Research suggests that on average visitors from the cruise ships spend a minimum of €100 during their stop-over in Dublin. However feedback from DublinTown members suggest that the actual spend is higher and therefore the potential additional revenue which will actually be generated on Thursday will be a minimum of €1,000,000. Just as positive is the fact that many of the passengers comment that the stopover in Dublin City is one of the highlights of their trip and would be keen to make a return visit”.
During their time here most of the passengers leave the ship to enjoy a day of sight-seeing and leisure around Dublin City Centre. DublinTown’s team of ambassadors are the official providers of the meet-and-greet service to welcome the passengers to Dublin before they disembark the ships. They provide the visitors with information about the city, directions to the main tourist attractions as well as recommendations on where to visit, eat, drink and shop during their time in Dublin.
2015 is proving to be a positive one for business in Dublin City Centre with overall footfall up by 2.2% this year when compared to the same time last year.
