DUBLINTOWN SHINES A LIGHT ON ALL THAT IS UNIQUE TO DUBLIN

On Thursday 8th June 2017, we launched our newest website UniqueToDublin.ie

This dedicated website celebrates everything that makes Ireland’s capital city truly unique. Aimed at both Dubliners and visitors alike, the site offers a fresh guide to the city for those wishing to discover the many events, people and places that make Dublin a destination without equal.

In celebration of its launch, we teamed up with Dublin photographer Evan Doherty to create a special collection of prints encapsulating the people behind the businesses that are unique to the city.  Guests in attendance at the launch event, which took place at The Grand Social, Dublin 1, had an opportunity to preview the photography exhibition before it goes on tour in key locations across Dublin later this month.

A selection of key influencers and familiar faces behind well-known Dublin institutions also lent their support to the campaign by appearing in a series of videos, which will appear across our social media channels. James Patrice, 98FM’s Big Breakfast Presenters Cooper and Luke, Thomas Smith of Grogans and Paul Byrne of BodyByrne Fitness, to name but a few, each share where they enjoy spending time in the city and discuss what they feel makes Dublin unique.

There are over 1,000 businesses that are totally unique to Dublin, over 30 of which have been successfully trading for over 100 years. One such business is McDowell’s Jewellers on O’Connell Street. Founded in 1870 by William McDowell, it was originally situated on Mary Street but moved to Sackville Street in 1902, making it the longest established business on what is now called O’Connell Street. In 1916 the premises were completely destroyed and looted during 1916 but were subsequently rebuilt in 1917 using some of the original girders for the GPO.

During a photocall, we had a selection of business owners and team members snapped to showcase the many different unique businesses there is in the DublinTown area.

CEO of DublinTown, Richard Guiney, commented:

Dublin is a truly unique city without parrellel anywhere else in the world.  I love getting out meeting with the owner managers of some of the most interesting and diverse stores, restaurants, bars and cafes.  We have so much to be proud of in Dublin but we sometimes take our great characters and attractions for granted. We invite Dubliners and our visitors to rediscover this great city.

Through UniqueToDublin.ie, we want to shout from the rooftops about everything that makes our city so special and we hope that you will join us in spreading the word by sharing your favourite spots with #UniqueToDublin.
