Experience the warmth and festive charm of the city centre as TWO Dublin at Christmas Processions parade through Dublin’s streets illuminating one million of the city’s festive lights erected by DublinTown on behalf of the businesses in the city centre.
Watch in awe as all of the festive lights across 30 city streets and O’Connell Street’s Christmas Tree, erected by Dublin City Council will be switched-on in one afternoon as part of this beautiful and radiant procession.
Starting at the Stephen’s Green end of Grafton St and the Capel Street end of Mary St, performers LUXe will lead both processions through the streets of Dublin before joining together in a beautiful celebration on O’Connell Street, where the Lord Mayor of Dublin will switch on the lights of the 40ft Christmas tree.
Speaking ahead of the launch of Dublin at Christmas, Ardmhéara Mícheál Mac Donncha said: Dublin city is a truly magical place at Christmas.
This year to officially start the festive season, Dublin City Council in partnership with DublinTown is delighted to bring you a stunning cross city Procession of Light that will finish on O’Connell Street where I will turn on the lights of the Christmas tree.
“As part of the festive programme of events, Dublin City Council will also host a spectacular free family Christmas event called Smithfield Lights on Sunday, 26th November. I invite visitors and Dubliners to come into the city to watch both of these events and enjoy the magical atmosphere. Also, come along to the Mansion House on the 11th December, when I will open the traditional Live Animal Crib to the public. Táim ag súil le Féile Nollag iontach don gCathair i mbliana.”
DublinTown CEO, Richard Guiney, said:
͞This Christmas season DublinTown will continue the tradition of erecting stunning Christmas lights on 30 streets in the city centre. DublinTown, on behalf of the businesses in the city centre purchase and erect the Christmas lights.
“Over the past number of years, we have seen a huge surge in the popularity of the lighting ceremonies with people of all ages. This year we are delighted to work with our partners in Dublin City Council to create something very different, one cross-city event . We are inviting visitors to come into the city to watch one of two processions as they journey through the many shopping streets of Dublin, switching on the lights along the way.”
