DublinTown welcomes Liffey Street plans

DublinTown is pleased to note that Dublin City Council last night voted to approve the plans for the improvement works at Liffey Street Upper and Lower. The genesis for these works came from the Reimagine Dublin One report published in 2017 after a collaborative effort between DublinTown, the Dublin City Architects department, The American Institute of Architects and hundreds of local stakeholders.

Once Liffey Street was identified as one of the projects to be enacted DublinTown worked with local businesses, Dublin City Council, DHB Architects and many local stakeholders to host workshops to develop and inform the overall plan for Liffey Street which then went out for planning consultation. DublinTown, having commissioned additional independent analysis of the plans from JB Barry consultants work made a submission in support of the plans after working with planners and traffic engineers to test and verify the proposals.

The plans should deliver much needed new paving, lighting, planting, street furniture for the street and create new public spaces for the people of Dublin and our visitors. Research has shown that 32,000 people on average cross the iconic Ha’penny bridge each day and the new plans will deliver a brand new public space for them to experience on Lower Liffey Street helping to future proof the district.

DublinTown looks forward to working with local businesses and Dublin City Council to insure the improvement works are delivered in as timely a fashion, and with as little disruption to trade as possible.
