- Thu 11 June, 2015
DublinTown, the collective of over 2500 business in Dublin 1 and 2, has given a guarded welcome to the proposal outlined by The National Transport Authority (NTA) and Dublin City Council (DCC) today.
Chief Executive Richard Guiney said: “The details outlined have the potential to create a more pleasant and appealing destination in Dublin city centre. From a business prospective we believe that there is a lot to look forward to in the proposals however we would like clarification as to how people will be able to access their carpark of choice and how deliveries will be made to business premises. To support the effective implementation of these plans we believe technology, maps and signage, backed by a comprehensive communications strategy, will instrumental in terms of guiding people to their destination within the city.
The Dublin economy is showing signs of significant growth after a protracted period of recession. It is opportune at this point to envisage the city that we want for the 21st century. We believe that the decisions taken should address the long-term needs of the city rather than just being stop-gap measures. We look forward to working with the NTA and DCC on developing integrated transport system that will allow for the projected growth in the city’s population and employment levels”.
The proposals are very detailed and Dublin City Centre businesses will need time to consider their full implications. However DublinTown will be actively engaging with our members over the coming weeks to ensure that plans deliver the maximum potential for the city centre traders.
