Update On Additional DCC City Centre Resources For Coming Weekend

DublinTown recently organised a meeting between Dublin City Council, Gardaí and local businesses on Monday 31st May at 10:30am to discuss the management of our streets during the expected outdoor summer.

The issues for the business community are straightforward and relate to:

• Public drinking and related behavioural issues
• Resultant poor perceptions of public and personal safety caused by such behaviour
• Excessive litter and the need for more waste bins
• Public urination/defecation and the related issue of a lack of public toilets
• Non-compliance with business requests for people not to block business entrances
• Apparent lack of a coherent and co-ordinated city plan
• The need for co-ordinated messaging between national and local Government that can be amplified by the business community
• The co-ordination of Government and private sector reach and resources proved effective in the 2020 reopening of the city and this can be achieved again.

We have been in daily contact with DCC and the Gardai on the issues and have just received confirmation from DCC on the additional resources that will be put in place from this weekend.

There will be 150 Portaloo toilets, 54 large Eurobins and 80 Barrel Bins placed across the City from this weekend with a specific focus on high footfall areas in the City Centre.

North Side:

South Side:

• Sycamore St
• Temple Bar Square
• Chatham Row
• Sth King Street
• Coppinger Row

• Dame Lane
• Merrion Square

We are pleased to see that the business community concerns have been taken on board and will be implemented from this weekend and beyond.

In addition to the above we have asked for additional Gardai to be deployed to high footfall areas of the city. This we believe will help us create the safe and welcoming environment that all Dubliners deserve following months of lockdown and restrictions.
