Update On Street Furniture in the Public Realm

As you may know, due to the impact of the Covid-19 restrictions Dublin City Council accommodated hospitality businesses wishing to operate in public spaces adjacent to their premises with a more lenient enforcement policy.
This has hopefully been of benefit and a majority of businesses have complied with the requirements.
Please be aware that beginning shortly, an increased enforcement regime will commence for businesses who place furniture in public areas without authorisation or where the terms and conditions of the relevant street furniture licence / permit are not complied with.
From DCC: “Dublin City Council has responsibility for managing public spaces throughout the City and it is vital that the public domain is safe and navigable for all citizens, including persons with a disability and it is therefore essential that the positioning of street furniture is controlled and that businesses operate within certain requirements.”
“It must be stressed that Dublin City Council remain committed to working with businesses to assist whenever possible in ensuring that businesses can thrive in the City. However, enforcement action must be and will be taken against those few businesses who continue to place furniture in public areas without authorisation or without complying with the terms of a licence.”
Those businesses who do not have a licence will receive a letter (of which the wording will change depending on requirements), warnings will be issued and appropriate action will be taken – including removal of said furniture if necessary.
