Purple Flag
We are DublinTown put forward two Dublin City areas for Purple Flag accreditation, successfully securing the accolade for both areas – The Creative Quarter (including Dame District) and Dublin One.
The first ever Purple Flag accreditation in the Republic of Ireland was on February 4th 2013 for the Creative Quarter including the Dame District area. This area joined the town of Ennis, Co Clare in being the first in the country to receive the prestigious, international Purple Flag award. The award is given to an area as a result of its excellence in a night-time economy.
We are DublinTown are delighted to announce that the second area within DublinTown was awarded Purple Flag status in January, 2017. This area focuses on the Dublin One district which stretches from O’Connell Street to Capel Street and from Parnell Street to the Quays.
Similar to the Blue Flag given to our finest beaches and the Green Flag that flies in our most eco-friendly schools, the Purple Flag is an accreditation scheme that honours excellence in the appeal and management of a town or city centre area between the hours of 5pm and 5am
About Creative Quarter Purple Flag:
After receiving the Purple Flag accreditation in 2013, the area was independently reassessed in March 2015 and was successful in retailing Purple Flag status. The area will be subject to external assessment again in 2017 and we look forward to working with local businesses and key stakeholders such as Dublin City Council, an Garda Siochána and Fáilte Ireland to help promote the area and Purple Flag to the widest possible audience.
About Dublin One Purple Flag:
A second area within DublinTown was awarded Purple Flag status in January of 2017. This area focuses on the Dublin One district which stretches from O’Connell Street to Capel Street and from Parnell Street to the Quays.
